A Frilly Day In

Summer can be a time to be uninspired about lolita, even though that is when I started getting into it. It is so hot out, all of those layers can be suffocating! I remember putting on my frills to take my SATs in May and it was still sweltering outside, even though it was still spring! So thus, I have been frilless for a while.

For a while now, I’ve been contemplating wear something wonderfully frilly on my birthday, which is to come in a week by the way. (Fun fact: my birthday will mark the first anniversary of BTSSB’s New York City store, as they opened last year on my birthday!) However, I didn’t want to wait until then to dress up, so today I decided to make myself all pretty and stay in the A/C!

Pretty much everything here except for the tights and shoes is Bodyline. I haven’t worn this skirt in a while; It was January when I last wore it, I think?

So, how do you spend a frilly day in? I guess you would take a cute tea cup and drink some tea out of it and share a tender moment with a fictional character. By shoving a picture of them up on my computer screen. Yeah.

Dandy says hi by the way.

I had some raspberry tea, which I really should have prepared in a Pyrex measuring cup for easier pouring! I borrowed a little teacup and feared that I would spill upon myself.

I spent the rest of the day rather lazily, talking to friends and whatnot. Eventually I got tired and took it all off.

I missed wearing the frills…I hope someday there will be time when I can simply go out to be frilly, but unfortunately there is nothing to do around here.

Hello~! I want to share today’s coordinate!

11115955_10204325756167335_453026932_n

I went to dinner tonight with some family friends, so I found that an excuse to wear frills 🙂 It’s still kinda chilly out even though it’s spring, so I wore a knit thingy I got. I want it to be warm outside already!

Here’s a rundown on the coordinate:

  • Skirt, blouse, and rose: Bodyline
  • Socks: Anna House
  • Shoes: Taobao
  • Sweater: Offbrand

Hnnn, I need a haircut 🙂

Prints I Wish Existed

Lolita fashion is home to many fun and creative prints out there, from the saccharine pastel prints that AP loves to make, to the more mysterious screen prints that MMM favors. However, since some ideas are more common than others, there are inevitably themes out there that I think would be really cool to see, but haven’t been picked up on for whatever reason. So, what would I like to see in lolita prints?

That Lull In Lolita Fashion: The Struggle of Building a Wardrobe at First

Tags

, , , , , ,

It has come to mind that I haven’t posted in a while, and with that thought I realize that it can be hard to write about lolita fashion when you don’t have much of it.

In January I was looking through EGL on Livejournal and I was amazed at the many wardrobe posts! Many of them had sizeable wardrobes, likely as a result of many years of collecting and building upon your wardrobe. However, if I were to do a wardrobe post right now, it wouldn’t be quite as magnificent: Some skirts, a jsk, a blouse or two, a pair of shoes, virtually no accessories…you get the point?

It can feel a little discouraging, looking at these large wardrobes when you’re just starting out. However, I must remember: It took everyone a long time to accumulate an impressive wardrobe! Building a wardrobe is a gradual process, I believe. It is especially true when you’re a teenager: At that point, you may not have a source of income to fuel your fashion, and so you just have to collect every little dollar you can so you can save up for maybe one or two items. I was very fortunate: I had a very generous friend who wanted to help me get started in the fashion, and thus I was able to get a first coordinate once everything came in the mail! However, what if it’s just you? Putting that first coordinate can take a long time then.

That being said, I will continue saving up money in my little jar over time, and hopefully get closer to that dream wardrobe, one piece at a time!

Thoughts On Brands: Angelic Pretty

I feel like every brand has a certain look about them that allows them stand out, much like how every artist has their own art style. I want to attempt to summarize that style as well as how I feel about it, and I will start with Angelic Pretty here! Warning though, this post is image heavy!

Dresses I Love: Crystal Dream Carnival

Tags

Hello everyone! It sure has been busy for me, with the semester wrapping itself up and all. Today I share another one of my favorite dresses out there:

Crystal Dream Carnival!

The ever so sparkly Crystal Dream Carnival print from AP! It looks especially awesome in navy! Though, lavender isn’t bad either 🙂

I’m a sucker for sheer stuff, like overskirts and veils, so this really appeals to me! I love the design of the bodice, and the lace at the bottom…it has little horses in it!

I’d like to imagine the most sparkle-tastic coord with this print…gold sparkly shoes are very popular when people coordinate this print! Glittery tights would be in a dream coord for me as well! I feel like sheer items would look really awesome! And the headpiece absolutely must be something outrageous, maybe like a glittery tiara or sparkly veil…Maybe I’m getting carried away here 😛

Does anyone have favorite carnival prints they’d like to share?

I’m especially excited about the jsks! I want both of them hahaha! Something about this series makes me unable to wait until the spring time! *excitement intensifies*

At this point, I won’t be able to reserve it because I just don’t have the money to afford brand at this point. However, I want to save up so I can catch it secondhand or, if I’m lucky, get it at the NYC store.

Whee! I can’t wait to see coordinates! Information about reservations can be seen here!

Magic Clean Erasers! How Wonderful on Shoes!

Today I’d like to proclaim my love for a little helper that I’ve realized is quite awesome on shoes: The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser!

Okay, technically I use the store brand, but you guys get my point.

For those of you not in the know, a Magic Eraser is a cleaning product one can wet and then use to scrub up messes and stains in the house. However, it is also really useful for cleaning up shoes too!

For some background: I love white shoes. While I don’t own any lolita shoes in white(yet), my normal everyday leather sneakers are white and I also own white marching band shoes.

Delicious Dinkles in a striking white. Too bad I have to deal with white marching band pants as well…We have to sit on tarps to keep ’em from getting stained!

Before leaving for Districts Wednesday, I asked my parents to get me an eraser to clean off my marching band shoes, since in that band festival you wear your marching band uniform for the performance, and my shoes were in pretty bad shape. However, the results of the cleaning were wonderful!: They were almost like new! So white!

I then decided to extend this treatment to my white leather sneakers and my red lolita shoes. The white shoes cleaned up pretty well: not perfect, but no more horrid stains everywhere! With the red shoes, there wasn’t much to clean up, and what few scuffs were there didn’t really come off.

Admittedly, this is not a new idea at all: I learned this myself from one of the freshman in my band, where he let me have a try…and I kinda went overboard and messed up his eraser XD Whoops.

I believe this is pretty good for shoe preservation, so keep those shoes clean!

Dresses I Love: Victorian Letter

Victorian Letter OP in Ivory

Angelic Pretty just happens to be my favorite brand! I like their adorable craziness and just their overall look! It’s been really interesting to see their take on more classic styled looks lately: Even though there is a style shift, I feel like it still looks like AP rather than imitating another brand.

This print, Victorian Letter, I really like! It’s very pretty I like it lots; I think it works best in Ivory and Pink. The OP is really quite eyecatching to me, but I doubt I’d fit into it unless it had corset lacing in the back; It might swallow me otherwise! However, there is another option in this print series that I think might work…

Victorian Letter Long JSK in Ivory

This one I believe has some more sizing range in the back, with corset lacing and a panel of shirring. It might be kinda long on me, since I’m only 5′! I think a longer jsk could be handy to a taller lolita, where sometimes skirt lengths could end up a bit more than just above the knees simply due to height. However, it is still a very pretty design 🙂

What are your thoughts on this series? Does anyone own it?
